Walkersville in Frederick County, Maryland — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
Crusher Shed
Workers brought stone from the quarry and fed it into the crusher. The crushed stone was then fed by conveyor belt into the metal sieve, which revolved at a slight angle. At the base of the sieve you can see part of the gearing that turned it. The stone fell through the different sized holes into hoppers, sorted by size.
Horse carts and trucks were backed into the passageways under the shed and were filled with different sizes of stone to be sold for road work. This stone was not heated in the kilns.
Erected by Frederick County Parks & Recreation.
