Around the top of the memorial is a short poem written by the Danish poet, Halfdan Rasmussen (from 'Aftenlandet', 1950): 'Muselmand. Ukendte Job./Aske i en askehob./Legioners sorg og ve/sover i din askes sne./Menneske. Navnløse ven./Giv os mennesket igen'.
