Regarding Adams Residence. Designed by architect Lloyd Wright, son of Frank Lloyd Wright, to be simple and built on a budget. The square 2-bedroom home with 676 square feet (26 feet by 26 feet) cost $1,351 to build. The house has a roof angled to provide relief from the San Fernando Valley's summer heat. Wright called it the Mat House for the thatch-like roof he designed. Wright and owner/builder Bill Adams parted ways when Adams built a shake roof instead.
It was designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument No. 629 in 1996. The house was occupied by members of the Adams family until 2009. This is a private residence, not open to the public.
