Note the 30-inch-by-40-inch bronze eagle on the top of the monument was vandalized and removed from the monument. It will likely be replaced this summer.

The 30-inch-by-40-inch bronze eagle on the top of the monument created a controversy, as some feared the combined height of 8½ feet of this monument would overshadow other monuments in the park.
