1. Virgil Riggs Marker
Inscription. In the late 1940's Virgil was hired to cook at Parry Lodge. Parry's was the place to be during the movie making era. He served in the army from 1943 — 1945. He was hired back to Parry's to cater for the movie crews, on locations in the Kanab area. Around 1950 he opened Virgil's Cafe & Bakery. He continued catering for the movies for the next 20 years.

Virgil was known for his delicious doughnuts, chicken and dumplings, and big heart. Virgil's advice: "Don't give up - just keep trying."

Virgil was very instrumental in the "Little Hollywood Film" era.

The building seen here behind the marker, currently a t-shirt shop, was the site of Virgil's Cafe & Bakery back in the 1950's.
