Inscription.   Hier woonde van 1631 tot 1650 Joost van den Vondel (1587-1679), 'Prins der Nederlandse dichters'. Hij dreef hier een zijde- en kousen-winkel en schreef er zijn beroemdste toneelwerk, de Gijsbrecht van Aemstel (1638).

Joost van den Vondel (1587-1679), 'Prins der Nederlandse dichters' (Prince of Dutch poets), lived here from 1631 to 1650. This is where he ran a silk shop and hosier as well as writing his most famous play entitled Gijsbrecht van Aemstel (1638).
