Harvey S. and Edith Patterson purchased the business from the Hickey brothers in 1937 and changed the name of the store to Patterson Hardware. Harvey S. died in 1959, and the business was purchased by his son Harvey F. Patterson and wife Emma.

Regarding 362 Central Avenue. Patterson's is one of the last of the old-time hardware stores where you could buy a screw or nut and not a package of 20 of them, where you could get something on account and your name was enough for them, where a high-school kid could say "charge it to this company or that ranch" and they would because they knew who you were working for at any given time.
