1. Birth of Skypark Monument

This side of the monument faces the airport.

Inscription. June 1965. Daniel Weltzien, the founder, developer, purchased the property known as “William’s Black Angus Farm.” Using all his entrepreneurial skills, he bartered his dream of a family airport. The main building of this airport was a “bank barn” with “Snoopy” painted on the side.

August 1974. After a mysterious fire the new building was built and dedicated to Captain Allan Trent, a missing pilot of the Vietnam War.

This side faces the memorial park and road. In addition to the Department of the Air Force seal on the upper right, there are seals for the Department of the Army, Department of the Navy, United States Marine Force, United States Coast Guard, and United States Merchant Marine on the base.

3. Birth of Skypark Monument

The bench in front of the monument reads, “Capt. Alan R. Trent. Graduated Wadsworth High School Class of 1958. 1960 entered Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado. 3560th Pilot Training Wing, Webb AFB Texas, Academic Instructor 1965–1967.”
