Also see . . . Roger Bresnahan on Wikipedia. "The Duke of Tralee" (1879-1944) was a Major League Baseball player, and sometimes at the same time, a manager. Bresnahan's best years were with the New York Giants, where he was a World Champion in 1905. He is widely credited for popularizing shin guards (worn by catchers) and for developing the modern batting helmet. This was after Bresnahan was hit by a pitch and was hospitalized for ten days.
