La primera banda musical se formó en 1935 como la Orquesta de Policía, iniciativa del General Rafael Melgar. Años más tarde, convertida en Banda de Música.
Su sección de instrumentos de aliento de madera, de metales y sus respectivas percusiones conserva la tradición musical de las grandes bandas europeas y norteamericanas del siglo XX en su estructura, selección de instrumentos y su repertorio.
En el pasado se realizaban conciertos los domingos en el parque Hidalgo, hoy es una tradición escuchar a la banda musical en el kiosko de la Explanada de la Bandera, es ahí en donde los 27 integrantes practican su repertorio a cargo de Vicente Óscar Chan Tec, maestro y compositor de la agrupación desde hace 20 años.
Musical Band
The first musical band was formed in 1935 as the Police Orchestra, an initiative of General Rafael Melgar. Years later, it was converted into a Musical Band.
Its sections of woodwinds, metal and percussion instruments keeps to the musical tradition of the great European and North American bands of the 20th century in its structure, selection of instruments and their repertoire.
In the past concerts were held on Sundays in Hidalgo Park. Today it is a tradition to listen to the band in the kiosk of the Esplanade of the Flag, where the 27 members practice their repertoire under the supervision of Vicente Óscar Chan Tec, teacher and composer of the group for 20 years.
