Inscription. "Bathhouse U" became a popular nickname for the Altoona Undergraduate Center when it moved to Ivyside Park in 1948. The huge two-block-long dressing room - with its 4000 swimmers' locker baskets -- was remodeled into the AUC's "Main Building." When students started classes at Ivyside Park in the fall of 1948, the bathhouse housed the library, 12 classrooms, biology and physics labs, and administrative offices. The bathhouse was torn down in 1959 following the construction of the E. Raymond Smith Building, the first of the modern buildings to occupy the campus.
