Joseph J. "Joe" Herrmann 1912-2002/Edward J. "Eddie" Herrmann 1936-2017. . , Joseph J. "Joe" Herrmann, Lucius Herrmann, a baker, who emigrated from Germany in 1900, married Helen Veronica McSweeney in Ohio in 1911. They settled in San Antonio, Florida, in 1925. In 1935, their son, Joe Herrmann, married Rose, the daughter of Max Ullrich, the town blacksmith. They raised Ediie and his eight siblings in the Jovita Building, built by the Herrmann family. Joe organized the Jovita Radio Store, founded Joe Herrmann's Saf-T-Gas, Inc. which he owned and operated for 49 years, and developed Rosewood Subdivision. Joe was a co-founder of the San Antonio Citizens Federal Credit Union, Pasco County Fair Association, and Pioneer Florida Museum, and he was a leading ambassador for the Dade City Chamber of Commerce. He received the St. Jude Award from the St. Petersburg Diocese for his service to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. He served as City of San Antonio Mayor and council member and was appointed a county commissioner by Governor Leroy Collins. Joe valued his community heritage as evidenced by co-chairmanship of the Pasco County Centennial Celebration in 1987. The Joseph J. and Rose A. Herrmann Charitable Foundation continues the family legacy., Edward J. "Eddie" Herrmann, "Eddie" was co-founder with Willy Post and the Jaycees of the San Antonio Rattlesnake Festival. He graduated from St. Leo College Preparatory School at age 16 and soon became known as "the Culligan Man." He married Mary Patricia "Patsy" Miller in 1955. As a historian, he co-authored The Historic Places of Pasco County, preserved documents, was president and program chair of the Pasco County Historical Society, facilitated placement of historical markers in Pasco for over 30 years with the Historical Preservation Advisory Committee, and was trustee of Pioneer Florida Museum. His humanitarian and community activities included Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Mayor of San Antonio, and volunteer Fire Department member. He received the Benedictine Spirit Award and Paul Harris Fellow and was also an award-winning winemaker.
