Inscription. The present Cecil store and house were built in 1906. This building replaced a one story store at Clifton Factory that stood on the same site, and the house stands on the same site of an old three story structure called "The Tavern."

This location, once known as Clifton Factory, was renamed Great Mills when the original post office in Old Great Mills was relocated to this store in 1907. Members of the Cecil family served as postmaster here for over 60 years.
