Regarding First Church of Christ, Scientist (Hoyt House). Excerpt from the nomination form:
"The building now occupied by the First Church of Christ, Scientist was erected in the nineteenth century as a residence, given a vaguely classical renovation about 1925 when converted for a synagogue, and purchased by the present owners in 1932. A tradition says that the house was built as early as 1796 by George Dent or Charles Broadway, previous owners of the property. However, no evidence exists to support this claim."
