In 1904, the oldest religious body in Shreveport, St. Mark's Episcopal Church, began building this cathedral. Then in 1954, St. Mark's decided to move to a more suburban setting; there was a select group of members that remained behind and founded the Church of the Holy Cross. Staying true to the church's mission, the Holy Cross still to this day seeks to develop ministries that improve the lives of those living in the inner-city and those who have lost their way. It is therefore fitting that the church made its television debut on the TV Series, Thief, starring Andre Braugher. The series itself follows Nick Atwater, played by Braugher, who owns Heritage Motors, a car dealership in New Orleans, to serve as a front for his true business of bank robbing. The Church of the Holy Cross made its appearance as the setting for Wanda Atwater's funeral towards the beginning of the series.
