1. Homewood Suites Hotel Marker
Inscription. Today, the Homewood Suites by Hilton at 50 M Street, SE features rooftop views and two of DC's most popular fast casual restaurants — CAVA and Shake Shack. The land on which the hotel sits included a Sunoco gas station until 2006 when the station was closed and dismantled. Although early rumors predicted a hotel for that parcel of land, Monument Realty purchased in 2007 and announced a year later that an office building was planned. Fast forward six years—past a recession—to 2013, when the land was acquired by Englewood LLC and the rumors came full circle as plans were announced for a Hilton hotel. The 11-story, 195-room Homewood Suites broke ground in 2015 and was completed by 2017.
