The Founding of Miscouche Marker
Vers 1808, des familles écossaises catholiques, les Steele, McNeil et Gillis, sont les premières à s'établir dans l'emplacement actuel de Miscouche. En 1816, un groupe de familles acadiennes, qui habite la baie de Malpèque à l'est de la Rivière-Platte, achète 6000 acres de terre du propriétaire du lot 17, le colonel Harry Compton. L'année suivante, ces familles déménagent sur leur acquisition pour fonder la paroisse de Miscouche. Ces fondateurs sont des Arsenault, Gaudet, Poirier, DesRoches, Lebrun, Gaffant et Pineau. On nomme cette nouvelle communauté Belle-Alliance, mais c'est le nom Miscouche qui s'impose éventuellement. Du mi'kmaq Munuscooch, cette expression signifie « petite île verdoyante ».
Around 1808, Scottish Catholic families, including the Steeles, McNeils and Gillis', were the first to settle where Miscouche now stands.
