Inscription. This marker is erected as a memorial to the first White settlers in King County who selected claims in this immediate area and settled upon them Sept. 27, 1851.

Embedded in this concrete are the ashes of Jacob Maple and his son Samuel Maple.

This spot being the original donation claim of Samuel Maple, who settled here in June, 1851.
