Flint in Genesee County, Michigan — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
Josiah Dallas Dort
Committed to Flint
Josiah Dallas Dort took care of much more than business.
Dort was a founding partner of the Durant-Dort Carriage Company and later a president of Dort Motor Car Company. But he was also actively involved in the Flint Institute of Music, the Industrial Mutual Association, and the city's parks. Until his death in 1925, Dort encouraged young people to accept leadership positions in the community and urged corporations to donate land for public use.
"Nothing could possibly mean more to me than Flint."
Josiah Dallas Dort, 1919
