Educated in the New Glasgow Schools, Sackville (Mount Allison) Academy, Glasgow University Scotland.

Public Servant, Politician, Pharmacist, Sportsman, Farmer, Horse Breeder.

First (1876) and Ninth (1884) Mayor of New Glasgow, County Councilor for Pictou Landing and Pictou Island 1887-1889.

Elected Member of the Legislative Assembly 1878-1887, Provincial Secretary 1882, Leader of the Conservative Opposition 1882-1887, Member of Parliament 1896-1904, called to the Senate 1911.
 
Erected 1994 by Pictou County Historical Society.
