Regarding Upton Sinclair House. Upton Sinclair wrote nearly 100 books, and was well known in the first half of the 20th century. In 1906, Sinclair acquired fame for his classic novel The Jungle, which exposed labor and sanitary conditions in the U.S. meatpacking industry. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1943. Sinclair lived in this house, which was built in 1923, from 1942 to 1966, and this is where he wrote many of his later works. The grounds also include a concrete vault where he kept all his papers. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1971. This is a private residence, not open to the public.
