Inscription.
Holmes Hall (1949)
The building was named in honor of Dr. Dwight Oliver Wendell Holmes, the sixth President of Morgan College (1937-48). Dr. Holmes successfully guided the destinies of the College during a critical period in our nation's history, when World War II altered the political alignment and social structure of the world. Morgan was transferred to the State of Maryland in 1939 and saw unprecedented growth of the student body, postwar. Upon the foundations so carefully prepared by the late President J. O. Spencer, Dr. Holmes made the plans for and began building of the modern Morgan. Stately and classic in it architecture, Holmes Hall is located at what was then the center of campus. With its distinctive clock tower, it is considered the University's signature building. Holmes Hall was renovated in 1993 and is used today for classrooms and offices.

Erected by Morgan State University.
