Nolita in Manhattan in New York County, New York — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
I Absolve You
In this very unique sculpture by Christian Master Sculptor, Timothy P. Schmalz, Padre Pio is seated on one side of the crucifix, which also serves as a confessional, with his hand raised in absolution.
On the penitents side of the confessional screen is the image of Jesus with His pierced hand, in place of Padre Pios, raised in absolution.
It is a striking depiction of the reality of Christs redeeming power in the presence of the priest during the sacrament of reconciliation.
Donated by the Saint Pio Foundation to the Basilica of St. Patricks Old Cathedral, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Padre Pio entering eternal life.
