LSU had eight sacks and held Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson without a touchdown for the first time in 17 games, as the Tigers beat Louisville in the 2016 Citrus Bowl, 29-9, in Orlando. Offensively, LSU was led by sophomore running back and game MVP Derrius Guice, who ran for 138 yards and scored two TDs. Quarterback Danny Etling completed 16-of-29 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns with his top target being junior Malachi Dupre, who had a career-high 139 yards on seven catches. Defensive end Tashawn Bower recorded three sacks, while senior linebacker Duke Riley had a team-high eight tackles with a fumble recovery. After spotting Louisville a first quarter field goal, LSU took control of the game following TDs by Colin Jeter and Guice and led 16-6 at halftime. LSU extended the lead to 23-6 on a 70-yard TD run by Guice midway through the third quarter ànd as Louisville never got closer than 17 points the rest of the way. LSU outgained the Cardinals, 394-220, as the Tigers finished with a 9-4 mark.
