Inscription. Cass Gilbert, noted architect of the Woolworth Building, designed this eighteen-story loft building in 1927-28. Terra-cotta reliefs of winged guardian figures, horse-drawn chariots, and three dimensional lions were inspired by ancient Assyrian carvings. These exotic motifs are rare in New York City and were fabricated by the Atlantic Terra Cotta Company. The building was converted to residential use in 2003.
