Inscription.
Organized on April 26, 1910, the Union Bank & Trust Company purchased this site from J.B. Sandoz for $7,000 and built the current structure. Prior to this, the property had been home to a restaurant, barber shop, saloon and warehouse, but the "Great Courthouse Fire on 1904." which never reached the government building, ravaged this corner of the block. Opening at this location April 13, 1911, with Dr. J.P. Saizan serving as president, the Union Bank was considered the most modern bank building at the time, featuring the popular neoclassical style of Beaux-Arts. Later, this building housed Planter's Bank and then First National Bank of St. Landry Parish.
