This marker location designates a split of two trail routes: the original 1852 route that left this marker location and headed southwest and then south for 16 miles to Harts Meadow; and the 1854 route which replaced the 1852 route as a shorter and easier route. This newer route traveled west/northwest and then southwest towards Marker Y-10.
