1. Columbus Tustin Marker
Inscription. Born in Philadelphia in 1826, Columbus Tustin was the City's founder and namesake. He met his wife Mary in Sonoma County, California and moved to Southern California with their children. He worked as a carriage maker, miner, farmer, postmaster, fruit grower, and real estate developer. In 1868, Columbus Tustin and Nelson O. Stafford purchased 1,359 acres of the Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana. Columbus Tustin subdivided a portion of the land, laid out the streets, sold lots, and then offered free lots to those who agreed to construct buildings to fulfill his vision.
