The New York Life Building

Completed in 1928 from plans by Cass Gilbert, this 40-story building is the third home office of New York Life Insurance Company. From 1837 to 1889 earlier structures on this location served as New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad depot, concert garden, and P.T. Barnums Hippodrome. This was the site, from 1890 to 1925, of the original Madison Square Garden, designed by Stanford White.
