This park is dedicated in the memory of Emory L. Bennett, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his gallant one-man defense against two enemy battalions attempting to overrun his company. PFC Bennett’s deadly fire halted the enemy advance, allowing his company to withdraw, thus saving many American lives. PFC Bennett died heroically in the service of his country.
