1. The Coal Miner Marker
Inscription.
The first commercial mining of coal in Cambria County (c. 1825) was by Matthew and Michael Myers - sons of Joseph Moyer - the founder of Our Community - in what would later be called the "Lemon” seam - about a half mile west of Lilly.

Whether in slope, or drift, or shaft mine, The Pioneer Miners of the Greater Lilly Area labored 12 hours a day, 6 days a week for up to 60 years - beginning as young as eight - most often in cramped spaces that were dirty, dark, dank, and dangerous.

We here honor those Pioneer Miners and the generations of Miners that followed in more mechanized mines and later surface mines. We recognize all those involved in the Coal Industry as Mine Owners and Administrators - as Mule Tenders and Truck Drivers - as Company Store Managers and Clerks. We remember the sacrifices and support of each Miner's Family.

To All of These, Our Community owes its existence, growth, and perdurance.

Erected 2011.
