US Coast Guard Cutter Comanche (WPG-76) Anchor
• The 165-foot “A” class cutter, Comanche, was commissioned 1 Dec 1934. She was stationed in New York and performed rescue and ice-breaking operations.
• On 1 July 1941, the Comanche was assigned to the USN and her homeport became Boston. In World War II, the Comanche provided critical support to the war effort serving in the North Atlantic, performing ice-breaking activities, anti-submarine operations, and troop and supply ship escort.
• On 3 Feb 1943, the Comanche crew saved the lives of 97 Soldiers following the torpedoing of the US Army Troopship USAT Dorchester.
• At the end of WWII, The Comanche performed air-sea rescue until she was decommissioned on 29 July 1947.
