1. Islamorada Baptist Church Marker
Inscription. During the "Great Hurricane" of 1935, the Matecumbe Methodist Church was destroyed. It was originally located near the beach on the Atlantic side of Upper Matecumbe Key. In 1937 the congregation built a new wooden church adjacent to the Hurricane monument north of here. That building was moved to this site in 1958 and became the home of the local Baptist congregation.
