Inscription. Founded by the Rt. Rev. Philander Chase, first bishop of Illinois, 1845. Restored and rededicated by the Rt. Rev. William L. Essex, Bishop of Quincy Nov. 4, 1945.
 
Erected 1951 by The Illinois State Historical Society.
