Doug Dickey grew up in Gainesville and played quarterback for the Gators from 1951-53. He began his coaching career at Tennessee, where he coached for six seasons. In 1970, Dickey became the Head Coach for his alma mater and led the Gators to a 7-4 record. In nine seasons as Head Coach at Florida, Dickey won 58 games and led the Gators to four Bowl appearances. He coached several All-Americans, including Wes Chandler, Burton Lawless, Ralph Ortega, John Reaves and Jack Youngblood. Dickey returned to the University of Tennessee and served as the Vol’s Athletic Director for 18 years. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003.
