Arguably the best wide receiver to ever come through the University of Florida, Alvarez was named an inductee into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2011, 40 years after he played his final game for the Gators. During his sophomore year, Alvarez set eight SEC receiving records as a First-Team All-American in 1969, catching 88 passes for 1,329 yards and 12 touchdowns. He set a school record with 15 catches in a 35-16 win over Miami and finished his career as Florida’s most prolific receiver with 172 catches for 2,563 yards and 19 touchdowns. Alvarez was also a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member and a three-time Academic All-American. He was inducted into the Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1991.
