Inscription. The one-room log cabin schoolhouse was built on two acres of land donated by Mrs. Elizabeth Smith. The school was erected for the descendants of the first pioneers. Prof. Thomas W. Goldie from England was the first teacher. In 1867, a rural school district was formed and named Ritenour. The log cabin was destroyed by fire in 1882 and replaced with a new four-room brick school.
