Additional commentary.
1. The Marsh Creek Skirmish
The 26th Pennsylvania Emergency Infantry was activated in the middle of June 1863 as a temporary measure to help defend Pennsylvania from the Confederate invasion. The regiment arrived in Gettysburg on June 25 and sent out patrols on June 26. One of those patrols encountered Confederate cavalry under Col. Elijah V. White at Chambersburg Pike bridge over Marsh Creek. In a short engagement, many of the Pennsylvanians were captured.
