Cette très belle vieille maison est construite en deux étapes. L’arrière est réalisé en 1840 alors que l’avant a été complété en 1905. Son allure actuelle date de 1910.
En 1841, il est dit au Terrier Papineau que Bazile Charlebois a son emplacement sur la partie ouest du lot 34 où il possède un terrain de huit arpents. Les propriétaires résidants actuels sont de la 7è génération de cette famille Charlebois.
À la fin des années 1930, Éphrem Charlebois tient un commerce de cordonnerie. Pendant ses loisirs ce véritable « cordonnier savant » a monté un herbier de très grande qualité scientifique. Il collabore avec le frère Marie Victorin célèbre auteur de la « Flore laurentienne ».
En 1968, il a donné son herbier à l’Université de Sherbrooke.
Par ailleurs, Monsieur Charlebois a également été bedeau de la paroisse pendant cinq ans !
Ce bien est cité immeuble patrimonial. La protection s’applique à l’enveloppe extérieure du bâtiment.
This beautiful old house was built in two stages. The back was finished in 1840 and then the front was finished in 1905. Its current appearance dates from 1910.
In 1841, according to the Papineau land registry, Bazile Charlebois had his property on the western part of Lot 34 where he owned eight acres of land. The current owners are the 7th generation of the Charlebois family.
At the end of the 1930s, Éphrem Charlebois had a shoemaking business. In his spare time, this "learned cobbler" developed a herbarium of great scientific quality. He collaborated with Brother Marie Victorin, the famous author of "Flore Laurentienne".
In 1968, he gave his herbarium to Sherbrooke University.
Mr Charlebois was also Parish clerk for five years.
This house has been recognized as a heritage building. The protection concerns the external structure of the building.
