1. Le Cadran Solaire de Montebello / The Montebello Sundial Marker
Le projet de création d'un cadran solaire à Montebello est né vers 1990 après avoir pris connaissance de l'expression « l'heure de Montebello » (voir l'autre panneau). En 1997, le conseil municipal établissait par résolution son intention de le réaliser. C'est de 2004 à 2006 qu'il fut élaboré et il fut inauguré le 21 septembre 2006.
L'ensemble sculptural du cadran solaire, avec un design unique, se veut à la fois scientifique, artistique, culturel et patrimonial.
Le cadran solaire en acier inoxydable est supporté par un mur de pierres « Indiana » sculptées symbolisant le Château Montebello, pilier de notre économie et de plusieurs aspects de notre développement. Derrière ce dernier, le buste de Joseph Papineau, premier seigneur de la Petite-Nation (voir le panneau sur le socle), observe le temps s'écouler sur notre cadran solaire en compagnie des citoyens montebellois et de leurs visiteurs.
À l'avant du cadran, se trouve une voûte dans laquelle sont enfouis des souvenirs et des éléments patrimoniaux de Montebello. Sur le panneau qui la scelle, on peut y lire la devise du cadran, qui est

Installé dans un carré de verdure en face de l'église, l'ensemble est agrémenté d'un aménagement paysager composé de végétaux du temps de Louis-Joseph Papineau, fils du premier seigneur. Le site se veut une aire de repos où il fait bon s'arrêter pour accompagner Joseph Papineau, qui surveille nos souvenirs à travers le temps qui passe inexorablement mais sereinement à Montebello.
The project to install a sundial in Montebello originated around 1990, about the time that the expression "Montebello time" (see the accompanying panel) was discovered. In 1997, the municipal council passed a resolution to proceed with the project. Work progressed between 2004 and 2006, and the sundial was unveiled on September 21, 2006.
Placed in a uniquely designed sculptural setting, the sundial has scientific, artistic and cultural merit as well as historical significance.
The sundial is made of stainless steel and is supported by a wall of sculpted Indiana stone symbolizing the Château Montebello,

A vault located in front of the sundial holds mementos and heritage objects significant to Montebello. Imprinted on the panel sealing the vault is the sundial's motto, which is the same as that of the municipality of Montebello: FERO NON QUAERO. Roughly translated as "my search is over," this motto expresses the pride that Montebello residents feel for their surroundings, and emphasizes the historical significance of the sundial, the vault and the bust of Joseph Papineau.
All three are placed in a landscaped setting, surrounded by gardens featuring the same plants as those grown in the time of Louis-Joseph Papineau, son of the first seigneur. The site is a quiet place where people can relax under the gaze of Joseph Papineau, as he guards the treasures of our past, and watch the peaceful yet inescapable march of time in Montebello.
