Inscription. Boxer, motorcyclist, wordsmith, cartoonist and entertainer, Bob Steel joined WTIC (Travelers Insurance Company) in 1936 when it operated from the 6th floor of this Grove Street building. From here until 1961, from Broadcast House in Constitution Plaza through 1974 and from the Gold Building on Main until 1999, Bob hosted a program of music, news, humor and his Word for the Day, making him the voice of morning radio for millions of New Englanders. He captured as much as 80% of the audience in the 1950s, and in 1990 received the Marconi Award for highest market share in the nation. In 1996 he was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame. In 2011 the Hartford City Council renamed Grove Street in Bob's honor.
