Inscription.

Completed in 1925, the new nine-room Junior High School was built on the site of Olyphant's first schoolhouse that opened in 1855. As a result of continued community growth, by 1936, a major expansion project added a "U" shaped portion that housed two gymnasiums, a "home making" department, and an "industrial arts" shop arranged around a central courtyard.

Following the formation of the Mid Valley School District in 1969, this building housed the high school-level vocational and technical curriculum classes. Although it was eventually closed by the school district, the former school has been reborn as an apartment building for area senior citizens.

Photographer and Olyphant native John Greskovic captured this view of the "former" Junior High School partially framed by the single remaining doorway of the town's early 20th century High School. The dome of St. Patrick's Church is clearly visible on the left. [Photo 1982]
