1. 225 W First Street Marker

Inscription. This building is home to O'Fallon's oldest existing business, established in 1894 by Mathias Schwarz as Schwarz Furniture & Undertaking. A hearse and carriage barn with elevator was built in the rear in 1909, and a funeral chapel was located next door to the east. The funeral business was sold in 1946, but the furniture store continued to be operated by the Schwarz family - a genuine O'Fallon institution.
