Nicholas Koenig. The City of New Baltimore is greatly indebted to Nick Koenig and family of Lakeside Gardens. Nick always led the way to community betterment and civic pride. He was recognized as the city's "Good-Will Ambassador, as he cheerfully gave of his time, self and beautiful flowers. In honor of his outstanding work with these exotic specimens of dahlia horticulture, Nick, in 1938, was named the "Dahlia King of America". This title was continuously echoed and our city was designated the "world capital of the glorious dahlia". , , Nick's memory lives on as his family keeps his legacy alive with the cultivation of this radiant garden.
