1. Historic Businesses 12th to 13th Streets, South Marker
Inscription. From the late 1940s to the early 1970s, the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company occupied a large brick building at the west end of the 1200 block of R Street. After nearly 25 years in business, Firestone left R Street and Capitol Wholesale Electric Company moved into the property.

Lyon Transfer and Storage constructed a large brick building in the early 1920s near the middle of the 1200 block. The Martha Washington Grocery store also leased a space in the building until it was demolishcd in the 1970s.
