1. Mt. Zion Christian Methodist Episcopal Church Marker
Inscription. Congregation members, under the guidance of the Rev. W.E. Farmer, built Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church in 1896. The oldest African American church in Union City. it is part of the Colored Methodist Episcopal Church denomination, which was founded in 1870, when members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, announced the formation of the Colored Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1954 the word "Colored” was changed to "Christian.” Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1997, as part of a multiple property submission.
