Inscription.
The Little School House was constructed in 1898 by the men of the Garden City Colonization Society. German immigrants were lured South by the railroad land agents' promise of a new life. Almost all the families of the school children were farmers; thus, the, school year was planned around the planting and harvesting time. By 1921, the school had three teachers and 121 students. In 1932, Garden City Elementary School opened and The Little School House closed. Since that time, the facility has been used as a head start, for church gatherings, and as the site of Garden City Historical Society meetings. It was placed on the Alabama Register of Historical Buildings May 19. 1999, and was renovated in 2008 by a grant from Alabama's Mountains, Rivers, and Valleys Resource Conservation and Development Council, donations from individuals, and the Town of Garden City. Garden City's Little School House is dedicated to the students who walked through her doors seeking an education during the town's formative years, and to those teachers who dedicated their lives to educating these students. .
