1. First County Seat Marker
Inscription. Hickman County's first courthouse and jail, hewn log structures, stood on the hill 300 yards away, in the midst of the pioneer of town of Vernon. The Legislative act making Centerville the county seat was passed in 1821 and the courthouse was moved there bodily in 1823.
