Inscription.  From the 1860's into the 1900's the Herschberger families made carriages and wagons at this site. To the north there were many small shops; Sebastian Stephen made boots, Fred Beuttenmuller made guns, John Gersh had a meatmarket and Frank Kramer ran a saloon. Across Bluff St. for nearly a century, Frederick Alfrick and his descendants were blacksmiths. As the horse population decreased they turned to welding.
