1. N.P Smith Pioneer Hardware Marker
Inscription.  Nicholas Paul Smith's hardware store was a welcome sight in Bend because up until then supplies has to be brought in from Shaniko by stagecoach. Quick to spot a trend, Smith was the first to sell gasoline to the increasing number of automobile owners. Patch marks on the side pavement marks the spot where Smith installed the first gas pumps in Bend. N.P. Smiths Pioneer Hardware is still the oldest wooden building left standing in downtown Bend.
